the efficency doesn´t play a role at all. if you see the numbers mentioned in that film, it´s more than 10,000 times more energy than mankind needs in the same time ! i think we have more free areas to use solarenergy than we will ever need for a full supply !
it´s the price which decides about the use. pv is the multi-billion $ market in the future…

The problem with solar cells today is that they are really inefficient. The most efficient panels today only capture around 30% or so of the sun’s rays energy at a hefty price, the rest is given off as excess heat. They are not cheap is another problem. Don’t expect heavy use until we can develop more efficient ways(Not to mention cheaper). From what I have heard, only the visible spectrum of the sun’s rays is captured.
